One step Forward - Two steps Back
More than a week after Apple fixed the problems with streaming media flaw which is said to have allowed arbitrary code to be passed within the stream, letting bad guys take your L$ and more, Linden Lab finally posted about it on their blog. Was a new viewer really needed for this fix? I thought that this was a Quicktime problem, and not an SL viewer problem. If it was really just a Quicktime problem, why not just make another announcement in the TOS, so that it’d pop up when people logged on, direct users to the Apple page, and tell them to download the update before enabling media?
It’s not like they created a new viewer when the problem was first discovered that had all Quicktime media disabled by default or completely. Why was there a need to create a new viewer because the problem is fixed?
I haven’t tried the new viewer or the Quicktime update, but from what I’m already reading in the comments on that thread, I might not want to. Though “something” has been fixed with the new viewer or the new version of Quicktime, it looks like it’s creating other unwanted problems, now, like strange black rings in the sky.
